Salamander stoves are now on display at The Stove and Fireplace. The model we keep on the floor is the Hobbit SE, a cast iron stove built in Britain for spaces where a conventional appliance simply will not go.
Overall dimensions are 302mm wide, 272mm deep and 465mm high. That is small enough for a narrow cottage opening, a boat, a shepherd hut, a summerhouse or a snug, while still giving a good kilowatt output for the volume it is heating.
Being small does not mean being basic. It is a genuine multi fuel appliance with a riddling grate and ashpan, and the SE version is Defra exempt, which means it can be used in a smoke control area on wood.
It rewards dry fuel and short splits. Because the firebox is compact, wet wood will smother it far faster than it would a large stove, so we always sell one with a conversation about logs.
