Multi fuel stoves
01
Two fuels, one appliance
Useful if you have a reliable log supply in the autumn and want to fall back on smokeless fuel through the coldest weeks of the winter.
02
Longer overnight burn
Smokeless fuel holds its heat for hours, which suits older houses and rooms you want warm first thing in the morning.
03
Smoke control approved
Where you live inside a smoke control area we fit an exempt appliance and set it up for the fuel you intend to use.

Choosing between wood only and multi fuel
Wood only stoves burn on a flat bed of ash and tend to give a cleaner window and a slightly better efficiency figure. Multi fuel models sit the fire on a raised grate with air coming from below, which is what smokeless fuel needs to burn properly.
If you have easy access to dry logs, a wood only stove is usually the better buy. If your fuel supply is uncertain, or you want a fire that will still be glowing at six in the morning, a multi fuel stove earns its keep.
We will talk this through honestly at survey. It is a five minute conversation that decides how happy you are with the fire for the next twenty winters.

- What fuel should I not burn?
- Never burn wet or unseasoned wood, treated timber, house coal in a smoke control area, or anything painted or laminated. Wet wood tars the flue and ruins the glass within a week.
- How dry does firewood need to be?
- Under twenty percent moisture. A cheap moisture meter tells you in seconds, and most logs sold as ready to burn are not there yet.
- Do multi fuel stoves need sweeping more often?
- Usually yes. We recommend sweeping twice a year where smokeless fuel is used regularly, and once a year for wood only use.
